“First things first” and getting out on the local trails is the first thing I do in the morning. Who will I meet on the trail or do I have the world to myself? How are the fall colors? What tracks will I see below me? How cool looking is that trail curving through the woods? Those are just some of my thoughts as I run on a crisp fall morning. After getting back, the rest of my day feels easy and complete. I don’t know why but it just does.
My passion for trails came gradually. Growing up in the midwest, I have come to realize how important sidewalks were in my life. Every house had a one in front that usually led to the school, park or corner store. My friends and I used those sidewalks all day every day to play, visit and explore. Now, as I look around the Valley, sidewalks seem something of the past. I believe every home should have safe access to trails and open areas that sidewalks provided me years ago.
Because of our automated and technology driven world, recreational trails are needed more than ever to help provide a social bond with our neighbors, access to exercise out our front doors, reduce the clutter in our minds and giving us a better appreciation for the natural world. That is the vision of the Mat Su Trails and Parks Foundation and the reason I give them my support.
Please take this opportunity to join me and other like minded folks and Donate today to help us fund an integrated network of trails and parks throughout the Mat-Su!
