The Thriving Winter Communities in the Susitna Valley, and the Dedicated Trail Grooming Organizations that Support Them

We had the great pleasure to join the Petersville community for their Spring Fling earlier this month. Michele Stevens was our hostess and she is the prime mover behind Petersville Community Non-Profit Corporation (PCNPC) AND has secured hundreds of thousands of dollars to help groom the hundreds of miles of trails in their area. These trails aren’t just for recreational snow machining but they also provide needed paths to cabins that people live in seasonally and full-time. Spending some time out on the trails and among all the people who have cabins in the Susitna Valley we were struck by how tight the community is in an area that has very few built roads and truly comes alive during the winter season.

We have had the great fortune to provide two grants to PCNPC over the last couple of years to help buy two Pisten Bully groomers. The most recent groomer even has a separated cab in order to assist in search and rescue and EMS operations. Building parks and trails alongside committed partners is our bread and butter, but providing funding for snow grooming through equipment grants is a way to continue to provide access to the outdoors beyond just the summer and shoulder seasons.

We hope to find additional ways to partner with all the grooming organizations out in the Susitna Valley, and you can too, consider visiting their sites and making a donation to these deserving organizations:
