Skyline Trail in Hatcher Pass Management East Area

Departing from a neighborhood off Buffalo Mine Road, the Skyline trail climbs the foothills of Arkose Ridge. The trail overlooks the Matanuska Valley, with views of the Alaska Range and Tikahtnu (Cook Inlet) on a clear day. It is primarily an ATV trail, but makes a great hike if you don’t mind the occasional mud pit characteristic of ATV trails. It becomes brushy and less distinct as it climbs, but one can chart their own course higher onto Arkose Ridge.

Directions: From Palmer take the Glenn Hwy to Buffalo Mine Rd. After 3.3 miles turn left onto Murphy Rd, and go 1.5 miles to trailhead.

There is no official trailhead – just an unsigned pull out. Follow the route in the OuterSpatial app to stay clear of people’s homes.

Note – this trail has the same name as a different, popular hiking trail in Cooper landing.
