Grantee Highlight: City of Wasilla McCombs Cross Country Trails

Bumpus Recreation Area Trails Improvement Project

The well-used trails at Bumpus before trail improvements did not meet the needs of users.
Trails at Bumpus after trail improvements made possible by a MSTPF grant.
The Bumpus Recreation Area is continuing to develop a variety of opportunities for the community. Trails connect to the city bike trail system allowing thousands of residents to walk and roll to this awesome recreation area.
In 2021, the City of Wasilla received a $50,000 grant from the Mat-Su Trails and Parks Foundation for the improvement of existing trail loops at Bumpus Recreation Area. This project widened existing trails to better accommodate a variety of non-motorized users. Users of the trail system include equestrian, cross-country groups, and households from nearby neighborhoods. Previously the trail system did not meet the requirements to host High School Cross Country Events, but are now used by multiple schools in the area!
