Willow, AK – On a pleasant Saturday afternoon the Willow Trail Committee celebrated the completion of another trail connector in their trail network. Smokey’s Track, named after a bear that was visiting the trail construction area this summer I was told, and the new park in Willow were showcased to over 30 trail enthusiasts. This was one of several projects that the Mat-Su Trails and Parks Foundation provided funding for through our grant program. The project also included funding from the Friends of State Parks-MatSu and the State Recreational Trail Program. There are several miles of well marked trails that you can access of the Willow Creek Parkway.
Over 1700 hours of volunteer labor went into this project alone. Many more have been spent over the years by their volunteers to make this trail network what it is today. When you are enjoying the trails please appreciate and respect all of their hard work. Allowed uses include ATV, snowmachine, mushers, skiers, bikers and walkers, so be sure to be respectful of other outdoor enthusiasts.
